There are seasons in our lives when we feel absolutely barren. We can go through times when we feel completely stripped of everything that means something to us.
Dreams die or seem unreachable.
Relationships change or end.
Pursuits lead to seemingly dead ends.
Physical trials persist.
We wait and stand on God’s promises, but sometimes deep in our hearts we wonder if these promises will ever come to pass.
Maybe you are in a season like this right now.
When we are stripped of what is important to us – when we feel barren in any way (or all ways) – we need to surrender these hopes, dreams and desires into God’s hands.
He can sustain us in all seasons of life.
Sometimes we need to surrender our dreams and expectations to God.
When we surrender these dreams, hopes and desires into God’s hands and draw closer to Him, He can cause life to grow where it was once barren.
Surrendering the barren places in our lives can be scary, but He uses these circumstances to draw us closer to Him and to ultimately become more like Jesus.
This can often take much longer than we hoped, and it can sometimes feel like God has forgotten us.
He hasn’t. You are not on His back burner. He hasn’t forgotten about you.
If you feel barren in any area of your life, I encourage you to surrender this area to God.
By surrender, I don’t mean to try really hard to not care about it anymore. What I’m meaning is to present that area of your life to Him as an act of saying, “I give this to you. I choose to trust you with this part of my heart.”
Surrender this to Jesus.
This is not the time to drift away. Draw in closer to Him. Tell Him what’s on your heart. Trust Him in a deeper way.
He will sustain you in this time as you lean on Him. Your heart is safe with Him.
Psalm 54:4 “Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul”.
